Stroopwafels literally translates to "syrup waffle". A thin, round cookie consisting of two layers of sweet baked dough, held together by a syrup filling, most often caramel. First made in the city of Gouda, in the province of South Holland, stroopwafels are today one of the most popular Dutch treats and are loved throughout the Netherlands.
